Andy is the Co-Owner of Stoke Mill Restaurant at Stoke Holy Cross, Norwich

Give us a brief outline of what you do for a living?

I am the co-owner of Stoke Mill Restaurant, Stoke Holy Cross Norwich, and my jobs include chef, restauranteur, and a general dogs body.

Where did you go to school/college/university?

I was brought up in Colitishall, and went to school at Broadlands in Wroxham. I am a mainly self taught chef, and I have been lucky enough to cook at some of the finest establishments both in Norfolk and London.

What are your favourite parts of Norfolk and why?

I loved Wroxham as a young boy, playing with speed boats on ‘The Norfolk Broads’, and also playing golf on the cliffs at Cromer and Sheringham. I enjoy family walks on the North Norfolk coast and days off wandering down the Norwich lanes.

What’s your perfect day in Norfolk?

A perfect day in Norfolk with my family would be a drive along the north Norfolk coast, taking in some of the amazing beaches, such as Wells and Holkham. A stop for a pint and spot of lunch at The Hoste or Gunton Arms. Have a browse at some of the lovely independent shops such as Made In Cley. Back to Norwich for a fantastic meal out with my wife at Roger Hickmans.

How do you relax?

A nice relaxing Monday consists of a friendly round of golf with Roger Hickman, home for lunch with my wife and daughter and then a stroll through Norwich city. A day at work, where nothing breaks, nobody complains and everybody is happy!

Favourite song, book and film?

I like to listen to anything by the Foals. My favourite book is White Heat by Marco Pierre White, and the Wolf of Wall Street featuring Leonardo DiCaprio is my favourite film.

Best piece of advice you have been given and from whom?

Not exactly advice, but a very famous chef once said to me I would never do anything as a chef, and that has always spurred me on to achieve my dreams.

What infuriates you?

Young chefs that think they are ready to be head chef at 20 years old. You have to learn the basics
first.

Proudest moment to date?

To date my proudest moment is a 12 month period which included opening the Stoke Mill Restaurant,
and going on to win an award in our first year, whilst also having a baby during that time!

What never fails to make you smile?

My little girl Martha never fails to bring a smile to my face. Satisfied and happy customers at
the restaurant and finally of course, my fantastic staff (laugh!)
